Matchweek 7 of League A has come to an end. We look back at the key results of the flagship tournament.
Ordabasy fall short against Kairat
The match at Timur Segizbayev Stadium ended in a 3-0 win for the hosts. Abylai Zhilkaidar, Abylai Toleukhan and Alikhan Zhumabek scored for Kairat.
As a result, the yellow-and-blacks continue to lead the standings with confidence after Matchweek 7, having collected 21 points out of a possible 21. Ordabasy, meanwhile, face a tougher task in joining the medal race: they are now six points behind third-placed Zhas Kyran.
Akimov keeps impressing
Second place is still held by Shakhtyor from Karaganda, who, along with Kairat, remain unbeaten so far – their only slip-up was a draw against Aktobe in Matchweek 4. Last weekend, the Miners thrashed Kaisar 8-0.
The main hero of the match was Rasul Akimov, who scored a hat-trick. He has scored seven goals in his last three matches, while his season tally now stands at 9 goals and 2 assists. This makes him the undisputed leader of the scoring race, as well as the first player in the flagship tournament to reach double figures in the goal contribution chart.
In addition to Akimov, Alen Pak scored a brace against the Kyzylorda side, while Alexander Yakovlev, Meirlan Baltabayev and Daniyal Amantay also got on the scoresheet. It is worth noting that the Wolves played most of the match with ten men after Aitugan Abdrakhman was sent off in the 14th minute.
Zhas Kyran beat Kaspiy
The match in Aktau went well for the visitors from Almaty, as Zhas Kyran scored three unanswered goals against Kaspiy. Alan Lukanin opened the scoring in the 27th minute, before Nurbol Nurlan netted a brace and set the final score.
This was Zhas Kyran’s first win in more than a month. Before that, Oleg Trofimov’s team had dropped points against Ordabasy (0-0) and Astana (1-2).
Aktobe snatch a draw in the capital
The game at Air Arena turned out to be eventful and dramatic, as Astana and Aktobe shared the points in a 3-3 draw.
The opening goal came quickly, and it was scored by the visitors – red-and-whites defender Roman Shapovalov made it 1-0 in the 3rd minute. Kuandyk Khamidullin equalised in the 32nd minute, but shortly before half-time Aktobe went in front again through Ayan Amanzhulov.
Still, the capital side refused to give up – in the second half, Sanzhar Kuandyk scored twice, first from the penalty spot and then from open play. It seemed Astana were heading for victory, but in stoppage time Aktobe forward Asher Askhat scored the final goal of the match.
Without that goal, the capital club would have moved above Ordabasy into fourth place and closed in on Zhas Kyran. Even so, Astana remain in a decent position – just like the Shymkent side, Konstantin Chernyavsky’s team have 10 points.
Goalless in Pavlodar
Unlike the other teams in this matchweek, Irtysh and Tobyl did not treat the fans to goals, as the game ended 0-0.
With one point gained, Irtysh now hold a minimal advantage over Kaspiy, while the Kostanay side sit in mid-table – just two points separate them from both fourth and tenth place.
Taraz and KFF Academy exchange goals
Taraz failed to win at home for the first time this season, as their match against KFF Academy ended in a 1-1 draw. Anuar Tolendi put the visitors ahead in the 8th minute, before Galymzhan Orazaliyev restored parity in the 33rd. There were no more goals after that.
Samat Nauryzbayev’s team round out the top half of the standings, but the density in the lower half remains high. A clear example: KFF Academy are in ninth place, yet they are only one point behind Taraz. The battle ahead promises to be interesting.
Top scorer after Matchweek 7: Rasul Akimov (Shakhtyor, 9 goals).
Top assist provider after Matchweek 7: Diyar Rakhimzhanov (Ordabasy, 4 assists).
