Last Sunday, the first-ever national inclusive football tournament – UNI Football League – took place at the Astana Arena.
Around 90 young footballers with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other developmental conditions took part in this special event, representing ten cities of Kazakhstan: Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Atyrau, Karaganda, Semey, Petropavl, Taraz, Aktobe, and Ust-Kamenogorsk.
The matches were played in a 5+1 format, with each game lasting 15 minutes. The League’s sports analytics expert Evgeniy Yarovenko was invited as an honorary guest of the tournament.
“It turned out to be a real celebration for children with special needs. So many joyful emotions! The teams played in a round-robin format, and in the end, everyone received awards – no one left as a loser. Everything went just perfectly,” said Evgeniy Viktorovich, sharing his impressions.
The UNI Football League project aims to ensure equal access to sports for children with developmental differences and to support their social inclusion. It has been implemented since 2023 with the support of the Kazakhstan Football Federation, the Freedom Shapagat Corporate Foundation, and the Bolashak Charity Public Foundation. The organization of the tournament was also supported by the Akimat of Astana and the Embassy of Spain in Kazakhstan.
