Spring is approaching, which means the start of the Kazakh football season is getting closer. Many young Kazakh players who previously featured in the Freedom QJ League were active with senior teams in February — and some even found the back of the net.
Kaisar
The Kyzylorda side завершed their training camp with a convincing 3–0 win over Danish club FA 2000.
Two of the three goals were scored by former Freedom QJ League players. Academy product Temirlan Murzagaliyev opened the scoring with a header from a corner, while former Aksu player Alimzhan Yerkin netted the third goal from outside the box. Nigerian striker Imoh Ezekiel also scored in between.
Ordabasy
The Shymkent club defeated Kyrgyz side Muras United 4–0. One of the goals was scored by 19-year-old Bagdaulet Nuraly, the top scorer of the 2024 Freedom QJ League season.
Last year, Nuraly made several appearances in the Kazakhstan Premier League, mostly as a substitute. This season, his role in the senior squad could significantly increase.
Irtysh
Irtysh drew 1–1 with Leningradets in a February friendly. The goal for the Pavlodar side was scored by Tamerlan Agimanov, a participant of the League’s first season.
Agimanov scored 8 goals in 22 First League matches last season, contributing significantly to the team’s silver medals. Now he returns to the Premier League.
Astana
Last season’s KPL runners-up held a training camp in the UAE and defeated Arabian Falcons 3–2 in a friendly match. Alongside Marin Tomasov and Ramazan Karimov, 18-year-old Arsen Akhmetov scored his first senior goal.
In 2024, Akhmetov recorded 4 goals and 4 assists in 21 matches in the flagship Freedom QJ League tournament.
Atyrau
Atyrau suffered a 1–4 defeat against Lokomotiv Moscow U-19, but 20-year-old Temirlan Zhienaliyev, a former League player, scored in the 43rd minute.
Zhienaliyev played 12 matches in the inaugural Freedom QJ League season, scoring 4 goals.
Tobol
Tobol defeated Dinamo Batumi 1–0 during their training camp. The only goal was scored by 18-year-old forward Evgeniy Konyashkin.
In 2024, Konyashkin scored 7 goals and provided 1 assist in the Freedom QJ League. He also participated in the League’s charity initiative, delivering a masterclass for children.
Kairat
The reigning champions played several friendlies, including a thrilling 3–4 defeat against Pari NN.
Eighteen-year-old Mansur Birkurmanov scored twice in that match. In the 2024 Freedom QJ League season, he recorded 9 goals and 4 assists in 15 matches and became a two-time champion of the flagship tournament.
Despite his young age, Birkurmanov has already made his UEFA Champions League debut.
Shakhter
Two former League players scored in Shakhter Karaganda’s pre-season matches.
First, 19-year-old midfielder Roman Assylbayev, named Best Midfielder of the 2024 Freedom QJ League, scored against Kokand 1912.
Two weeks later, Changan MVP of the Season Gleb Makridov scored after coming off the bench against Baltika’s reserve team.
In March, Makridov will travel to Atlético Madrid for a week-long international development program held in partnership with Changan Kazakhstan and Astana Motors.
