We continue to introduce the individual awards presented by the League at the end of each season.
As a reminder, each award is named after a prominent figure in Kazakhstan football. The award for the best midfielder of the season bears the name of Anton Shokh.
Anton Shokh is a graduate of the Dzhambul football school. Anton Rokhusovich made his debut for Khimik at the age of 17 and scored 10 goals in his very first season. He also spent seven years with Almaty-based Kairat (1979—1985), scoring 21 goals. In 1986, he joined Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, one of the leading clubs in the Soviet Union at the time.
With Dnipro, Anton Shokh became a USSR champion and won the national cup, scoring the decisive goal in the final. The team also enjoyed a successful run in the European Cup, the predecessor of the UEFA Champions League, reaching the quarter-finals before losing to Benfica of Lisbon.
Shokh also won two USSR Championship silver medals with Dnipro and lifted the Super Cup. He was called up to the USSR Olympic team and was a candidate for the senior national team. Along with Eduard Son and Aleksandr Khapsalis, he is one of only three representatives of Kazakhstan football to have won the USSR championship.
