Astana – Irtysh
The capital side remain the only unbeaten team this season, with seven wins and one draw from eight matches. Their only dropped points came in a 2–2 home draw against Ordabasy in Matchweek 5.
There is no room for complacency, though: Kairat are just one point behind, while the Almaty side are well ahead on goal difference (+44 compared to +19). With that in mind, any slip-up from Astana could well cost them top spot.
Irtysh approach the match in solid form. The Pavlodar side have collected six points from their last three matchweeks, having managed just one point from their opening five games. Last time out, they beat Aktobe 2–1 at home.
Irtysh’s main problem is their attack: only nine goals scored in eight matchweeks. On the other hand, goalkeeper Aruzhan Sagiyeva has already made 40 saves in six appearances. Astana won the reverse fixture 4–1 – can the hosts repeat that success?
Tobyl – Shakhter
A meeting between direct rivals: Shakhter are fourth with 11 points, while Tobyl sit fifth on eight. A victory would allow the Kostanay side to draw level with their opponents.
In their previous match, the “Cinderellas” recorded a convincing 4–1 home win over Kaisar in Karaganda. Tobyl, meanwhile, have lost their last two home matches, 0–1 to Aktobe and 0–2 to Astana.
The first meeting between the teams ended in a goalless draw – it was one of only two matches in which Tobyl have kept a clean sheet. What should we expect from the return fixture?
Aktobe – Kairat
Kairat continue their pursuit of Astana and are just one point behind. The Almaty side’s attack is in a league of its own: 51 goals scored and only seven conceded. On three occasions this season, the Yellow and Blacks have scored more than ten goals in a single match.
Top scorer Milena Nikolenko has 13 goals and seven assists, giving her 20 goal contributions. Her goal tally alone is higher than the total number of goals scored over eight matchweeks by Tobyl (11), Irtysh (9) or Kaisar (5). Zhaniya Makhash leads the assists chart with nine, while Sofia Yagudina has seven goals and five assists.
Kairat won the reverse fixture 5–1 at home. Can home advantage help third-placed Aktobe this time around?
Ordabasy – Kaisar
For Ordabasy, the upcoming match is an opportunity to avenge one of their most frustrating defeats of the season. After all, the Shymkent side are the only team to have lost to Kaisar.
The reverse fixture in Kyzylorda ended in a 3–2 defeat for the visitors, and those three points remain the only ones earned by the league’s bottom side.
Ordabasy have not exactly been prolific winners either, with their only victory coming against Irtysh. They have, however, recorded four draws – more than any other team in the competition.
A win would give Kaisar a chance to rescue their season. A defeat, on the other hand, could leave the Kyzylorda side firmly rooted to the bottom of the table if other results also go against them.
