The Matchweek IV of the Freedom QJ League takes place this weekend. Here's what to expect from the upcoming football clashes.
Aktobe – Tobol: who will break out of the slump?
One of Kazakhstan’s classic rivalries — now at youth level.
In the Freedom QJ League, both teams have only one point after three matches. However, the hosts have a more productive attack: five goals to Tobol’s two. Will that be enough for the red-and-whites?
Taraz – Shakhtyor: will the Miners suffer their first defeat?
Shakhtyor remain unbeaten this season with one win and two draws. Taraz, on the other hand, have recorded all three outcomes once in the first three matches. Their only loss came at home — which makes this game a chance for redemption in front of their fans.
Atyrau – Ordabasy: expecting a tough battle
In Matchweek I, Ordabasy failed to beat Tobol away, while Atyrau managed to secure a win in Kostanay. The western side also took points from Shakhtyor at home, making this upcoming clash hard to predict.
Kairat – Astana: the clash of two capitals
Another iconic showdown in Kazakh football takes place in Almaty. Can Astana, after two consecutive draws, put up a fight against Kairat — or will the yellow-and-blacks continue their winning run?
Kairat’s midfielder Abylay Toleukhan leads the top scorer race with five goals. If he plays in Matcweek IV, he could widen the gap.
Caspiy – Irtysh: a chance for an upset
Caspiy remain the only team with zero points after three matches. Irtysh sit second, with their only loss coming against Kairat.
Last year, in the U-17 tournament, Pavlodar’s players (then representing Aksu) failed to beat Caspiy — 3:3 at home and 1:2 in Aktau. So this one won’t be easy for them either.
Kaisar – Zhas Kyran: can the Wolves repeat last year’s success?
Kaisar’s only win came against Caspiy, while Zhas Kyran are still unbeaten. However, back in the previous season, Kaisar 2008 managed to defeat Zhas Kyran in Almaty — adding extra intrigue to this fixture.
