The best defender of the past Freedom QJ League U16 season was recognized as Abdullakh Otegen of FC Aktobe.
He played 20 matches, recording 260 tackles and ball recoveries, along with 104 interceptions. Otegen also demonstrated an impressive passing accuracy — 794 of his 1,049 passes (76%) reached their target. In duels, he won 190 out of 285 (67%). His contribution also includes one goal and one assist.
As part of the League’s partnership with Freedom Bank, the winners of the individual awards — “Most Valuable Player”, “Best Goalkeeper”, “Best Defender”, “Best Midfielder”, and “Best Forward” — will each receive 200,000 tenge.
“My emotions are calm but very pleasant. This award shows that the work I’ve done was not in vain. I’m glad I was able to prove my stability and value to the team.
The season went well, and the credit for that belongs to the team and the coaching staff. The boys supported me in every game, and the coaches gave clear guidance and helped me stay confident. Thanks to that, I was able to progress and perform more consistently in important matches.
I was surprised by how quickly the level of the League is growing: every match demands maximum concentration, and there are no easy opponents.
The most memorable moment of the season was the match against Tobol, when we made a comeback in the final minutes. The atmosphere, the tension, the emotions — it was real team character. Moments like that make the season special.
My goal for next season is to keep growing, improve my reliability, and help the team fight for high results. I’ll spend the prize money on development: equipment, gear, and recovery.
To young players, I want to say: don’t worry and don’t be afraid of mistakes. Discipline, respect for teammates, and hard work are key. If you give your all, the results will come,” he said in his interview.
