We recap the action from Matchweek 11 of the Freedom QJ League B.
Altay’s long-awaited victory
The main event of the matchweek took place in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Altay, who had collected only one point and remained winless through the opening ten matchweeks, defeated second-placed Jaiyq 2-1.
The first half ended goalless, but the hosts were awarded a penalty shortly after the break – Daulet Dautbayev converted from the spot. Beibarys Serikkali equalised in the 61st minute, and the match appeared to be heading for a draw. However, Altay captain Zakhar Ivanov struck in added time to earn Pavel Yevteyev’s side their long-awaited three points.
Altay remain bottom of the standings with four points. However, the East Kazakhstan side finally have a result to build on – they are seven points behind ninth place, with seven matchweeks still remaining.
For Jaiyq, the defeat extended a disappointing run – the Uralsk side are now winless in four consecutive matches, having recorded three draws before the setback in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Ruslan Zhangirov’s team remain second with 21 points, but the gap to Zhenis has increased to six.
Zhenis come from behind in Kokshetau
The league leaders faced a difficult away match but still left Kokshetau with all three points following a 3-2 victory.
The hosts opened the scoring through Arsen Arapov in the 17th minute. The visitors responded quickly and emphatically – Amirkhan Abay equalised in the 23rd minute, Ulykbek Nalibek put Zhenis ahead shortly before half-time, and defender Ilya Goryachikh extended the advantage to two goals in the 53rd minute.
Okzhetpes reduced the deficit through Nuraly Sabyrzhan, but the hosts were unable to cancel out the visitors’ lead. The closing stages were tense, with the referee showing a total of five yellow cards from the 80th minute onwards.
Marat Zainudinov’s side claimed their ninth victory in 11 matches and confidently lead the standings with 27 points. Okzhetpes remain fourth with 17 points, although they are only four points behind second place.
Khan-Tengri score six in Semey
Khan-Tengri ended a run of three consecutive draws in emphatic fashion, thrashing Yelimay 6-1 away from home.
Dinmukhamed Birzhanuly opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Ilyas Shukebayev added a second. The hosts managed to respond in first-half stoppage time, when Vadim Saibel converted a penalty. However, the Almaty side scored four unanswered goals after the break through Zhanadi Zhumabek, Ardak Sarsen, Adilzhan Kairat and Daniyal Murat. Sarsen and Murat both came on as substitutes during the second half.
It was the second time this season that Dmitry Yurkov’s team have scored six goals in a match. Khan-Tengri had previously thrashed Kyzylzhar at home. The Almaty side share the league’s best attacking record with Zhenis, with both teams having scored 30 goals.
Khan-Tengri sit third with 21 points, trailing Jaiyq only on their head-to-head record. For Yelimay, the result marked a third consecutive defeat.
A physical contest in Balpyk Bi
Zhetysu defeated Atyrau 2-0 at home. Alikhan Diniya opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, before substitute Tamirlan Smagul sealed the result with a goal in the 81st.
The match was extremely physical, with the referee showing seven yellow cards and one red. Zhetysu midfielder Mukhammedamin Baidildin was sent off in the 82nd minute.
The victory moved Zhetysu level with Ontustyk on 16 points and brought them within touching distance of Okzhetpes. Atyrau remain eighth with 12 points.
Narrow victory for Kyzylzhar
The Petropavl side earned an important 1-0 victory over Ontustyk. The only goal of the match arrived as early as the sixth minute, when Abylaikhan Kenzhadoyev found the net.
Home midfielder Roman Komarovsky was shown a red card in the 87th minute. Nevertheless, Andrey Seliverstov’s side saw out the match without conceding.
Interestingly, Kyzylzhar have the league’s least productive attack, with only nine goals in 11 matches, but have already recorded three victories. The northern side currently sit ninth with 11 points.
Ontustyk missed the opportunity to climb higher in the standings – the two-time Freedom QJ League B champions remain fifth.
