The latest edition of the traditional Development Cup, an annual international tournament for U-17 youth teams, took place in Minsk, Belarus.
The Kazakhstan national team defeated their peers from Iran (2:0) in the group stage, drew with the future champions, the Russian national team (1:1), and lost to Azerbaijan (1:2). As a result, the team managed to secure fifth place by defeating Brazil's BCS Academy in the final match.
The senior coach of the national team and expert analyst of Freedom QJ League, Bauyrzhan Sagyndyk, summarized the results of the tournament.
– The Development Cup was beneficial for our team. In four matches, we aimed to showcase active, combination football, worked on progressive actions, and applied high pressing. It is important that the players tried to adhere to the set principles of the game and adapt to different opponents.
– Which opponent was the most challenging?
– Probably Azerbaijan. It was a match for a place among the prize-winners. We lacked some key details to secure the victory, but the players fought until the end.
– Which players from the Freedom QJ League performed best in the tournament? Whose progress during this offseason has been the most impressive?
– The tournament once again confirmed the importance of combining international competitions and the league for player development. Regular match practice and experience against strong opponents help footballers adapt and progress.
Abylay Toleukhan and Daulet Orynbassar showed a good level, but overall, the entire team's progress was noticeable. The work in the league provides a solid foundation, while international tournaments allow us to assess the level of preparation. Five to six players caught the attention of scouts, which confirms that we are on the right development path. The system is working, and the players are getting stronger.
