Main image

Matchweek VIII of the Freedom QJ League not only treated fans to brilliant comebacks and unexpected results, but also completely rewrote the league's history books. Here is a breakdown of the main events from the recent matches.

Resilient Tobol and a Sensation in Almaty

The matchweek schedule kicked off with a clash in Kostanay. The visitors, Astana, started strong and opened the scoring. However, Tobol showed immense character: the hosts bounced back with three unanswered goals to secure a confident 3-1 victory. Islam Zhantassov became the hero of the match by netting a brace.

Meanwhile, the biggest sensation of the week took place in Almaty. Zhas Kyran, currently fighting for a podium finish, unexpectedly stumbled on home turf, losing 1-2 to Aktobe. The visitors displayed exemplary commitment and took home three crucial points. Due to this slip-up, the Almaty side allowed the leading duo of Kairat and Shakhter to pull further ahead.

A Goalkeeper’s Benefit Performance and a Compromise in the Main Event

The KFF Academy defeated Irtysh 2-0 at home. However, the scoreline shouldn't be misleading—the game kept everyone on the edge of their seats until the very last minutes. The ultimate hero of the match was the hosts' goalkeeper, Abay Zamanbek. He built a literal iron wall in front of his goal, miraculously saving two penalties to keep a clean sheet.

The headline battle of the matchday took place in Shymkent, where Ordabasy and Shakhter locked horns. The game fully lived up to the hype in terms of intensity but failed to produce a winner. The Karaganda side stunned the hosts with an early goal—Danial Amantay beat the southerners' goalkeeper as early as the 5th minute. Shymkent managed to recover and equalized in the 55th minute. The remaining time was filled with stubborn, uncompromising battles, but the fans saw no more goals, ending in a 1-1 draw.

Southern Derby and a Historical Achievement in Aktau

The fierce southern derby between Kaisar and Taraz ended in a 2-1 victory for the Kyzylorda team. Yernar Parda was the main architect of Kaisar's success, racking up a goal and an assist.

Kairat comfortably outclassed Caspiy away in Aktau with a 0-3 win. This match will forever be etched into QJ League history. Almaty forward Daulet Orynbassar scored his 27th goal in the older age category. With this, he officially became the top scorer in U18 League history, overtaking previous record-holders Dastan Satpayev and Gleb Makridov.

Following this matchweek, Kairat capitalized on Shakhter's draw to solidify their grip on first place, while Zhas Kyran made their title race ambitions significantly harder.
